Due to the development in educational technologies that support learning at a distance, the CET at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has incorporated a video conferencing system. That is because video conferencing allows students and instructors at a distance to interact effectively with each others in a 2-way communication platform. We have visited the video conferencing room and we have recognized the main features of the system used there. The TANDBERG video conferencing system is the one used there. Actually, TANDBERG is a leading global provider of video communication products and services due to its high quality. The room consists of two HD video camera, Plasma screen, Laptops, LCD projector, Interactive White Board and a control unit. The TANDBERG system is provided with one hardware platform, one software platform and one remote control so that operating the systems is as easy as possible. The system comes with audio sensitive device that is used to prevent echo and to filter out unwanted background noise such as air conditioners and PCs. Moreover, participants can talk from their original places and no need to move to a specific place in the room. The wide angle view camera ensures all participants are seen clearly.
